The market closed December with mixed reports on progress through the month. Early there had been some reports of increased price levels. Later this dissolved into rollover and in some cases even a decreased price was heard. The variance in European numbers would be addressed in January when direction from feedstocks already pointed to an upward push from costs. At press time there had been no styrene contract settlement although sources indicated they were expecting a steep jump of somewhere between Eur70-90/mt. This was being supported by a recent surge in benzene and styrene spot levels prompted by concerns over global availability.
