High-Density Polyethylene : Latin America

Platts price assessments for high density polyethylene were unmoved in a slow Latin market due to the Easter Holiday coupled with steady Asian offers. For the Brazilian import market, Korea still had the cheapest offers at $1,580/mt CFR for HDPE film and at $1,560/mt CFR for HDPE blow molding and injection. Bids in Brazil were around $1,550/mt CFR for film and at $1,520/mt CFR for blow molding. The dollar strength against the Real was still a problem which was making the import interest to be reduced. The dollar value was at $1,81 this week. According to some Brazilian traders, to have a healthy import market in the country, the dollar value should be around $1.70.
