Negotiations for the February NWE MEG contract price were likely to be protracted by disagreements over proposed increases, market players said Friday. “The market is very difficult to read. Producers will want a big increase, with the upper Eur800s or lower Eur900s as a starting point. Whether they get it is another question,” a consumer said. “Until recently Asian spot prices supported higher numbers, but not now. I think the increase could be more like Eur40-50/mt on the January contract, with the final settlement no higher than Eur830/mt [$1,158/mt] FD NWE.” The source added that producers “would be mindful to settle the February contract ASAP” to guarantee a higher price.
