The Asian purified terephthalic acid market was firmer this week, with prices rising $15/mt on the week on a CFR China basis, driven by strong demand for downstream polyester production. This week, polyester fiber sales recovered to 120-150% from 50-60% late last week, which sparked strong spot PTA demand earlier this week, with the CFR China PTA price benchmark rising $15/mt by Wednesday. However, the strength stalled slightly Thursday as the upstream paraxylene market made a downward correction. On Thursday, the Asian PX market dropped $8/mt to $1050/mt CFR China.
