A potential drop in ABS demand continued to be a concern inthe US market, sources said this week, although concerns aboutdemand destruction due to higher feedstock prices weresomewhat soothed by falling styrene and acrylonitrile prices.“We’re expecting Asia to stop buying,” an ABS producer sourcesaid. “That could really hurt. There are some real concernsabout China.” Those concerns about Asia have replacedconcerns from early May, when ABS producers feared thatrecord-high acrylonitrile and butadiene prices would make theirproduct too expensive for customers. However, acrylonitrileprices have started to fall, with the price being talked this weekbetween $2,600-2,650/mt FOB USG, down about $25/mt fromlast week. Domestically, though, the price remained near$3,000/mt. “The domestic price should fall, too,” a source said.
