El Paso trader sentenced to probation for reporting false gas prices to Platts

Citing his "extraordinary" cooperation with investigators, a federal judge in Houston on Tuesday sentenced to one year's probation a former El Paso gas trader who pleaded guilty almost five years ago to providing false price information to a Platts publication.Christopher Bakkenist pleaded guilty in October 2004 to one count of giving bogus data to Inside FERC's Gas Market Report. His sentencing was postponed until this week to allow him time to cooperate with prosecutors investigating related cases.
