Ruby Pipeline gas flows surging amid stronger California price premiums

Ruby Pipeline natural gas flows entering the Pacific Gas and Electric system have taken a sharp turn higher in the second quarter, and forwards prices indicate that strength should con- tinue through the rest of the summer months. Average daily flows into the Northern California system from the pipe have more than doubled so far this quarter when compared with the first quarter of the year as supply chases Western US markets offering far more attractive price spreads than consuming markets to the east. Ruby, owned and operated by Kinder Morgan’s El Paso Pipeline Partners, is a 680-mile sys- tem that extends from Wyoming to Oregon near the California border and has a capacity of 1.5 Bcf/d.
