An automated plant has been successfully designed and installed at the County Line Stone Co., Akron, N.Y. It was the brainchild of John Buyers Jr., operations manager and an owner in partnership with his brother, Bruce. While John Buyers Jr. thought of automating the crushing/screening plant, it was his son, Michael Buyers, who designed the automation system. Michael Buyers works for the company as a systems analyst and manager for the company's asphalt paving plants.John Buyers Jr. explains when and why the idea of automating the plant started. "One day I asked Michael to see how he could increase one crusher's throughput yet avoid overloading it. It was a good place to start in automating the whole secondary plant. The reason for automating the plant in the first place was to put the control of the plant operations into management's hands," John Buyers Jr. says. "Another reason was to optimize the plant's efficiency. This was a big challenge to Michael, but I knew he was up to the task. "
