Active power filter (APF) has now become a maturetechnology for harmonic and reactive power compensations intwo-wire (single phase), three-wire (three phase without neutral),and four-wire (three phase with neutral) ac power networks withnonlinear loads. This paper presents a study on three differentadaptive algorithms for active power filtering applications. Thesealgorithms are adaptive linear combiner (ADALINE), least meansquare adaptive notch filter (ANF-LMS), and recursive leastsquare adaptive notch filter (ANF-RLS). In this paper, theseapproaches are employed for extracting load harmonic currents.The important issues associated with adaptive methods areaccuracy and prediction speed. These issues will be addressed inthe paper. Simulations using MATLAB/Simulink are presentedto clarify the algorithms.
