FCC wins major rail and tunnel work in Algeria

Spanish infrastructure specialist FCC, in a joint venture with Algerian firm ETRHB Haddad, has won a US$1.23 billion contract to build a railway line with major tunnels in Algeria.rnPart of a five-year plan by the Algerian government, the 185km-long line will run west from the capital, Algiers, to the cities of Relizane, Tiaret and Tissemsilt.rnThe high-speed line will pass through a rugged, mountainous area, necessitating the construction of five tunnels, which will be excavated using the NATM/sequential excavation method.
