The UK-based Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has announced that the Prince of Wales has accepted an invitation to become an honorary fellow in recognition of his support to the engineering profession and in particular, his promotion of sustainable development. The Prince of Wales' interest in sustainability and the built environment is well-known and at a joint ICE/Halcrow lecture in February this year, he voiced his support for civil engineers and their role in creating a more sustainable society, referring to civil engineering as "a life-saver and a life-preserver".
