Around 800 cigar aficionados cheered when president Fidel Castro, an ex-smoker but still one of the best PR men in the business, said (as part of his hour-long speech at the 'Dinner of the Millennium'): "If we have the best raw materials, soil and experience, why not make the best cigars..." So began the Cuban Festival del Habano 1999 in the capital city of Havana.
