Clean and green? A new filter on offer

Researchers at Biotec, a joint owned subsidiary of Stanelco (listed on the London Stock Exchange, ticker SEO) and SP Metal have developed a starch based cigarette filter. The main advantage of using starch as a filter material is that starch is a natural compound found in organic products such as potato and rice, meaning smokers would not have to worry as much that fibres from the current filters, made of cellulose acetate, are entering their bodies, as starch, unlike cellulose acetate, will naturally break down harmlessly in the body. Similar good news is that starch based filters are biodegradable and compostable, dramatically lowering their impact on the environment.
