摘要

The Global Roundtable on Climate Change (GROCC) brings together more than 150 senior officials from major corporations, international institutions, government agencies, and non-governmental agencies, for three years of meetings and at least two years of follow-up activities. The Roundtable has six objectives: (1) To assist development of an improved global consensus on a sensible course for climate policy; (2) To explore relevant technological and policy options; (3) To champion demonstration projects that test, scale, or otherwise assist the development and implementation of new technologies, processes or policies; (4) To assist business to adjust to climate change; (5) To provide a unique forum for discussion among businesses from all economic sectors and all parts of the world; and (6) To foster new initiatives. Participation in the Roundtable is by invitation only. Most participants are from the private sector. Five technical Working Groups, composed of leading experts from around the world, support the Roundtable by assembling background information, conducting research, drafting documents requested by the Roundtable, providing expert input at Roundtable meetings, and assisting, or in some cases leading, Roundtable projects in pursuit of the above objectives. The Roundtable held two meetings in 2005 and will meet twice in 2006 and 2007. The Earth Institute at Columbia University coordinates and administers all Roundtable meetings, research activities, projects, and day to day operations. At the invitation of Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland, the third meeting of the Roundtable will be held in Reykjavik, June 12-13, 2006. A generous grant from the Lenfest Foundation provides full funding for all Roundtable activities. Detailed information on the Roundtable, its meetings, participants, and the status of individual projects can be found on the Roundtable website at www.grocc.org.
