SMArt 155

SMArt 155, also known as DM 702, is a German army program to develop a 155mm artillery projectile with a pair of sensor-fuzed submuni-tions for the anti-armor role, and similar to the US Army 155mm SA-DARM. The program absorbs two earlier efforts, codenamed Habicht and ZEPL. Diehl also worked on a terminally guided projectile called EAP as a part of a multinational program with the Netherlands and France, sometimes also called GAM. Development tests of the SMArt 155mm concluded in 1996 with type classification in 1997. Production began in early 1998 and entry into service began in 2000 with a procurement objective of 9,300 rounds; production for the Bundeswehr was completed in late 2003. A product improved SMArt was under development. SMArt has been exported to three countries: Australia, Greece and Switzerland.
