RQ-5A Hunter

The RQ-5A Hunter (a.k.a. BQM-155A JT-UAV/Joint Tactical UAV; formerly Short-Range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV-SR) was one of several UAV programs being developed under the aegis of the tri-service UAV Joint Program Office. The system was a joint effort by Israel's IA1 Malat teamed with TRW (now Northrop Grumman Mission Systems). A total buy of 52 BQM-155 Hunter integrated systems (eight air vehicles per system) was planned for the Army, Marine Corps and Navy. Low rate initial production of the BQM-155 was authorized in 1993 and full rate production was scheduled for 1995. However, due to lingering technical problems, in January 1996 the program was canceled after seven systems and 62 air vehicles were procured.
