Type 99 AAM-4/Type 04 AAM-5

The Type 90 AAM-3 is a short-range air-to-air missile, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), for use on Japan's Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) F-2 fighter, as well as on the JASDF's F-4s and F-15 s. It is equivalent in performance to the AIM-9L Sidewinder, previously manufactured under license in Japan. Production deliveries for an estimated requirement of 2,000 units began in 1993. Two other new missiles have entered production.
