Prithvi is a surface-to-surface tac-tical ballistic missile being manufac-tured for the Indian army. Three versions exist, the SS-150, SS-250 and SS-350 that differ in payload and range. The Prithvi is part of India's ambitious IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Pro-gram) which is developing no fewer than five guided missiles. The first test launch of the Prithvi was con-ducted on 25 February 1988, and 14 tests of the initial Prithvi-1 were con-ducted. Production of the Prithvi was scheduled to begin in 1992, but was delayed a year. The production objec-tive was about 45-50 missiles per year. Production began in March 1994, and the first army unit was equipped in 1995.
