China had been exporting two principal types of antitank missiles, the outdated Red Arrow 73 missile (Hong Jian-73), a copy of the Soviet 9M14 Malyutka (AT-3 Sagger,), and a new indigenous design, the Red Arrow 8 (Hong-Jian 8), like the Euromissile HOT. The Red Arrow 8 is also in license production in Pakistan as the Baktar Shikan ATGM. In 1999, China unveiled a third type of ATGM, the HQ-9. This missile appears to be heavily based on the Israeli Mapats, and may be a license manufactured copy.
