In the summer of 2016, the Bundeswehr acknowledged that the Tucan tactical USA and the Luna small tactical UAS will be at the end of their service life by 2020. This has led to the formulation of a new requirement called HUSAR (Hocheffizientes Unbemanntes System zur Aufklarung mittlerer Reichweite: High Efficiency Medium Range UAS). The requirements include: endurance of more than 12 hours, range of 100 km, altitude up to 6,000 meters, and modular multi-sensor technology. The Bundesheer expects to begin delivery in 2018 and deploy operationally in 2019 which suggests that the program will be based an off-the-shelf solution.
