APACHE (Arme Propulsee A CHarge Ejectable) is a stand-off, sub-munition-dispensing modular cruise missile system developed by Matra (prime) and Aerospatiale (principle partner), now both part of MBDA. The system entered full-scale development in mid-1989 as a family of 1,200-kg modular weapons including the APACHE Anti-Piste, (APACHE AP) anti-runway version, APACHE Anti-Infrastructure (APACHE AI), designed to attack buildings, and the APACHE EG SCALP EG (Systeme de Croisiere conventionnel Auto-nome a Longue Portee de Precision-Emploi General = conventional autonomous long-range cruise missile system-general use). Original French plans for APACHE purchases were cut back to only 100 Apache AP with the first 41 delivered in 2003. France planned to fund 500 SCALP (450 Air Force, 50 Navy) in 2003-2007 but eventually only 400 were manufactured.
