Prithvi is a surface-to-surface tactical ballistic missile being manufactured for the Indian armed forces. Three versions exist, the SS-150, SS-250 and SS-350 that differ in payload and range. The Prithvi is part of India's ambitious IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Program) which is developing no fewer than five guided missiles. The first test launch of the Prithvi was conducted on 25 February 1988, and 14 tests of the initial Prithvi-I were conducted. Production of the Prithvi was scheduled to begin in 1992 but was delayed a year. The production objective was about 45-50 missiles per year. Production began in March 1994, and the first army unit was equipped in 1995.
