MICA

MICA (Missile Intermedial de Combat Aerien) is a medium range fire-and-forget air-to-air missile developed by Matra as a replacement for both the Magic and Super 530 missiles. Two guidance variants of the missile are being manufactured, the MICA-EM (a.k.a. MICA-RF) with an active radar seeker and the MICA-IR with an infrared seeker. Development began in April 1987; the start of series production of the MICA-EM slipped from 1993 to 1995 and initial deployment from 1994 to 1999. The initial series production order for 225 missiles for the French air force was awarded in December 1997 and the first deliveries were made in December 1999 for the Mirage 2000-5F.
