Advances in technology enable higher quality finished products based on hides that are not of the best quality. This upgrade is not simply a case of providing better cutting values, but can be coupled with improved physical performance. Moreover, innovation can lead to improvements in appearance and performance that can be sustained for longer periods of use. An important and ever growing topic in the field of leather finishing is "pre-finishing". Its growth can be mainly attributed not only to the increasing demand for higher quality articles but also to the lack of availability of good quality raw hides. These two main factors have meant that the upgrade of leather is now even more critical to the leather manufacturer, and indeed, cannot be ignored in a market that is constantly under pressure from price and cost.
