Zaragoza-based leather garment manufacturer Ibanez was established back in 1953 by Lorenzo Justo Ibanez. The family firm made cutting edge leather items using the latest leathers, sometimes on their own and at other times in combination with other fabrics. During the 1970s the company extended its international influence, regularly trading with countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Finland, Iceland and Switzerland. It became Saga Ibanez in 1999 when the company was handed down to Mr Ibanez's children. More than 50 years since its inception, the firm is still looking at new ways to work with leather and for new types of leather to develop. It claims the mix of experience and youth has got it where it is today. The current chief designer, Carlos Ibanez Yarza, has been surrounded by fashion and leather since childhood. He embraced the family's artistic passion, winning first prize in a painting competition at the age of 12 and going on to study at Barcelona's School of Fashion Arts and Techniques at the age of 16.
