A new lipase degreasing product is described that provides good degreasing when compared to the use of standard surfactants. It provides additional benefits such as improved grain tightness, better flatness, cleanliness of the hide, improved dyeing levelness, and has the potential to reduce fogging characteristics and improve hydrophobing. In addition, the replacement of surfactants by lipase offers significant ecological benefits within the degreasing process and in the subsequent treatment of wastewaters.
