Kenya: Beyond bovine

While it still has one of the biggest cattle populations in Africa, with 13 million head, as well as 10 million goats and nine million sheep, the livestock landscape in Kenya is changing.rnThis is largely thanks to the work of the country's ministry of livestock development, which has a leather and leather products development directorate. Attracted by the earnings potential of other types of meat and of more exotic hides and skins as a byproduct, the picture in Kenya now includes ostrich, crocodile, Nile perch, camels and donkeys. Pigs, too, are part of livestock strategy now.
