One of the missions of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is to keep the nation's waterways dredged to proper depths. This aids in navigation, keeping the multibillion-dollar shipping industry operating efficiently. The U.S. economic engine depends on it. While deep-draft dredging gets the majority of attention and funding, shallow-draft operations are also an important cog in the Corps' dredging process wheel. To that end, the Corps is about to take delivery of its first new shallow-draft hopper dredge in 30 years.
