U.S. inland waterways and ports need a boost, studies show

In separate June reports issued a few days apart, the National Research Council and the Brookings Institution said the U.S. needs to make more improvements to the nation's most heavily used ports and inland waterways. The NRC report focuses on inland waterways, in particular the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' network of dams and locks and its $650 million annual operations and maintenance budget.
