COAST GUARD WARNS TERMINAL OPERATORS OF SHORE SIDE BOLLARD FAILURES

Recent failures of shore side bollards that cast moored vessels adrift prompted the Coast Guard to urge terminal operators to inspect for deteriorated material conditions in bollards, their foundations and fasteners. Neither the Coast Guard nor the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have regulatory oversight over bollards so it is up to operators to check. Vessels and shore side facilities have been damaged in the incidents, but no deaths or injuries reported.
