German Tweed is a new label in the textile world. It has been launched exclusively by the German Benvenuto menswear brand, owned by Leithaeuser, for its autumn/winter 2009/2010 collection. Following the comeback of tradition and the renewed interest in traditional wool fabrics like tweeds and donegals the-Hamm based menswear company developed the German tweed with the southern German weaver Zuleeg, based in Helmbrechts.rnIt is the provenance that is the big message behind German Tweed: it is an original homemade product, 100% produced in Germany by traditional companies. The wool is from non-mulesed German sheep from the southern region of Schwaebische Alb and Regensburg; the wool is prepared by Bremer Wollkaemmerei (BWK) and spun in Eastern Germany in Zwickau by Zwickauer Kammgarn-spinnerei (ZKS), which was founded in 1835. Wool fibres of 30 microns produce qualities of 370 grams per metre, with some qualities in the German Tweed range also using Lycra.
