Canada - the world's second largest country by geography - was created because of luxury clothing when the fur trade drove French and British explorers to its remote interior, creating ports and processing hubs that today have become major cities, such as Montreal and Toronto. But, strangely, this wealthy, educated nation does not flaunt its riches in public, and luxury clothing retailers can have a tough time persuading Canadians to splurge on an expensive coat, dress or suit.
