Harris Tweed Hebrides set for expansion

Harris Tweed Hebrides, which produces 90% of Harris Tweed cloth, has submitted plans to the Western Isles Council for a new plant room and production bay to the west of its mill in Shawbost on the Island of Lewis.Chairman Brian Wilson said that the company's mill and its weavers are working at full capacity, and has launched an appeal for former weavers who have left the industry to return to help the company deliver its increasing orders. He said he needs 20 experienced self-employed weavers in the short-term to cope with the upturn, and that at present the mill is working flat out with regular night shifts.
