Fashion retailer Zara, part of the Inditex group, has committed to eliminate all releases of hazardous chemicals throughout its entire supply chain and products by 2020. Inditex will require 20 of its suppliers to disclose pollution data by March, with a further 100 suppliers disclosing the same information by the end of 2013. This will give those living near these facilities access to data about discharges in their local environment. The supply chain disclosure project will include azo dyes which have been found to give rise to cancer causing amines.
