Make It British Live! points to strong future for UK manufacturing

Sourcing event Make it British Live! was held at its new home of the Business Design Centre in London on 29 and 30 May. Thousands of manufacturers, retailers, designers and academics gathered to showcase the creativity and diversity of UK textile and clothing manufacturing at the event, which included a conference and trade show. "This year's event has been inspirational and it's great to see so many people championing manufacturing in the UK," said Kate Hills, founder of Make it British. Environmental journalist and broadcaster Lucy Siegle was back for a third time to chair the conference, with talks focused around how making in the UK is sustainable and the growing importance of technology. In a panel discussion which considered the question 'Fast or slow fashion - which does the UK do best?', Julia Redman, head of buying for menswear, kidswear and homeware at Scottish clothing retailer M&Co, said: "There's room for both, it's how we deal with it in an ethical and sustainable manner."
