As any engine collector or student of America's marine-engine industry could tell you, authentic examples of the early machines are exceptionally rare. Chances of finding an intact engine from what is arguably the industry's most dynamic period-roughly from 1900 to 1916-have for years now been, let us say, negligible. Chances of stumbling upon a pre-1900 marine engine in anything like original condition would be essentially nonexistent.
