On the McKenzie River, a boat tradition lives

Rivers, every bit as much as oceans, have inspired metaphor and poetry. Such inclinations may well lurk among some of the 60 or so fishing guides still working the McKenzie River, home of some of the best steelhead and trout fly-fishing in Oregon. Yet it is hard-headed pragmatism that makes many of them favor wooden boats.
