Effect of preheating on internal checking in boards of different dimension and grain orientation in Eucalyptus regnans
From these results, it is clear that preheating can sub- stantially reduce internal checking in boards of 5 X 10 cm cross-section for all three grain orientations. However, whereas for tangential grain checking was negatively re- lated to temperature, for boards of radial and intermediate grain it was necessary to heat boards to 90 deg. C to achieve check(5 X 5 and 2.5 X 10 cm cross-sections)but in those cases checking in control material was very much less severe(Chafe and Carr, 1997).
