This investigation was designed to answer the question, if national grading rules for roundwood applied in selected countries of the EU are able to predict sawntimber quality (especially load-bearing capacity of construction timber) sufficiently and if the newly published European grading rules for roundwood and sawntimber provide any advan- tage in this respect. .
