摘要

Before punk turned into a growth industry, a fashion statement and a term somehow associated with Ashton Kutcher, Billy Idol was one of its true originals—a striking figure of star power and perhaps even a little menace. "And somehow, despite myself, I've lived to tell," he says today with a devilish grin. This afternoon the man born William Michael Albert Broad in Middlesex, England, is kicking back at home, dressed in familiar black and white with dark sunglasses and surrounded by assorted candles and CDs in the living room of the main house inside his Hollywood Hills compound. This is the gated spread Idol has called home since the late 1980s, and it is fairly regal, complete with guesthouse, greenhouse and standard-issue rock star pool. Near Idol rest a copy of his new CD, Devil's Playground, and a Frank Sinatra collection. "I've been thinking about doing 'Summer Wind' with my band," he explains. "You know, a little something that suits my place in life."
