Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod (ASCC), jumped into life on August 29, 1970. Coast Guard aviation assets in the New England area, previously located at Coast Guard Air Station Salem, Massachusetts and at the USCG Air Detachment site at NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island, came together onboard Otis Air Force Base (now Otis Joint Reserve Base) on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Of the eleven statutory missions of the U.S. Coast Guard, ASCC primarily supports Search and Rescue, Living Marine Resources, and Aids to Navigation. Since its establishment, Air Station Cape Cod's service has been extensive. ASCC responded to 9/11, to the loss of TWA Flight 800 and Egypt Air Flight 990, and was involved in the search for John F. Kennedy Jr.'s missing aircraft. ASCC also rose to the call when tropical storms Harvey, Dorian, Florence, and Laura hit the region. ASCC's crews have saved (or have assisted in saving) nearly 5000 lives since 1970.
