New England zones carved up in fishing industry proposal

A major fishing group has asked the US government to designate transit lanes off New England in areas slated for wind development. The proposed lanes would cut through five planned wind projects, potentially reducing their installed capacity. The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (Roda) is demanding six lanes, each 7.4km wide and up to 140km long, off Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Developers in the region — Vineyard Wind, Mayflower Wind, Ørsted-Eversource and Equinor — had proposed a 1.9km spacing compromise in November.
