As you know, many applications, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, recognize the My Documents folder as the central data storage location on Windows 98 systems. Thus, every time you or your users open or save a document in one of these applications, the Open or Save As dialog box displays the contents of the My Documents folder on the C: drive. However, it's likely that many network users aren't taking full advantage of the My Documents data-management feature, which, in addition to supplying a central location for storing data on your hard drive, can also help users avoid tedious navigation when saving files on a network. That way users won't need to waste time navigating to a network folder in the Open and Save As dialog boxes each time they want to work with files stored on a network.
