Within the wireless M2M telemetry market, mobile connectivity has increasingly become the connection mode of choice and the networks have proved suitable for M2M telemetry where typically data requirements are low, typically at less than 1 MB per month. For over 80% of the landmass mobile is not an option. In these areas satellite is often the only alternative for wireless M2M telemetry but satellite communications have traditionally been an expensive proposition and the end result is that there are many applications were better monitoring/control is required but has not been provided. This is changing rapidly as we see a number of satellite networks cover 100% of Australia supporting low-cost telemetry options suitable for wireless M2M applications.
