First filter press for SW delivered

The first of six new filter presses for Scottish Water's Quality and Standards III (Q&S3) programme has been delivered by Ashbrook Simon-Hartley, the utility's framework supplier of filter press dewater-ing equipment. Currently being installed at Scottish Water's Invercannie WTW, which serves Aberdeen, this first press is part of a ￡14.8M drinking water upgrade. A second Manor press is due to follow shortly. And by the end of 2008 a further four are scheduled for delivery to Scottish Water's Camphill, Daer and Roberton plants for their Q&S3 upgrades. All four projects will contribute to providing cleaner, fresher water for Scotland with investment of almost ￡680M by March 2010. Filter presses continue to be the preferred option for sludge dewatering at water treatment works. Matt Gibson, managing director of Ashbrook Simon-Hartley, said: "They produce the high solids cake required, but with far less energy consumption. There are also lower operational costs than alternative technologies, such as centrifuges."
