Southern water has completed a £12M project to increase the capacity of the wastewater infrastructure in Canterbury to cater for the growing city's expanding population. The scheme included the construction of an underground storm storage tank that can collect 900,000 litres of storm water and an above ground storm water storage tank at Canterbury Waste-water Treatment Works that can collect 2,500,000 litres of storm water during periods of heavy rainfall. A new pumping station and 0.65km sewer will transfer the wastewater to Canterbury Treatment Works.
