The description relates to laser-beam welds on the high-alloy steels X 10 CrNiS 18 9 and X 12 CrMoS 17 and on the free-machining steels 9 SMn 28, 10 S 20 and 35 S 20. Favourable parameter ranges leading to reduced formation of porosity and cracks are discussed for real thin-walled components with wall thicknesses of less than 1 mm. Detailed investigations into the distribution of elements in the welding seam and in the heat-affected zones have resulted in an initial indication of the processes taking place during welding in comparison with the structure of the parent metal in each case. The strength tests carried out produced surprisingly good results.
