Fabricating an Offshore Cantilevered Deck Structure

Establishing the work scope, identifying the most effective way of installing the fabricated structures, and planning are the essential elements for achieving a successful project. Welders working on offshore installations must meet higher standards, as weld repairs slow down the project. Another essential element in the success of the project was the use of dimensional control. By applying dimensional control to all fabricated structures, the installation offshore was effected with no major fitup problems. The use of bolted hookup connections allowed the installation of the cantilevered deck structure to be performed during winter weather conditions, which would have prevented welding owing to the difficulties in constructing habitats around the hookup joints under adverse conditions.
