A nearly ideal spring continued across the northern High Plains and the Northwest, but an alarming drying trend deepened its grip on a broad area stretching from the southern Plains northeast into the Great Lakes region. Meanwhile, California experienced cool, sometimes showery spring weather. Elsewhere west of the Rockies, rain and snow further eased or eradicated Southwestern drought, although some areas braced for the possibility of spring snowmelt flooding. Finally, the East experienced variable conditions, ranging from slightly drier than normal in parts of the mid-Atlantic region to excessively wet in the eastern Gulf Coast region and northern New England.
