摘要

Surrounded by the Sacramento Mountains to its east and the San Andres Mountains to its west, the Tularosa Basin lies nestled in southern New Mexico just north of the border of Texas. Pleasant summers days and cold winter nights characterize the temperature regime of the arid Tularosa Basin, with an average 94°F high in the warmest month of June and a mean low of 2g°F in December. But the temperatures in the expansive swath of southern New Mexico are not always clement; 1994 witnessed the area's all-time high of no°F, and in 1962, the mercury fell to -14°F. Precipitation falls in the Tularosa Basin evenly throughout most of the year, with a notable spike during the Arizona monsoon in the months of July and August. During the monsoon, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is pushed into the Desert Southwest, fueling the powerful afternoon and early-evening thunderstorms for which the area is known.
